Op zaterdag 17 maart 2007 en zondag 18 maart 2007 werd in Brussel, Belgie een Bed and Breakfast beurs gehouden. Deze beurs was ook bestemd voor kleine hotels en appartementencomplexen. De organisatie had ons benaderd voor deelname aan deze beurs. Indien genoeg gay-bedrijven zich zouden melden, dan zou een er een speciaal holibi gedeelte opgezet worden. Helaas waren wij en een spaanse complex Casa la Diferencia de enige holibi standhouders. Dus geen aparte sectie, we stonden bij de verre bestemmingen. De beurs heeft in totaal meer dan 8.000 bezoekers getrokken. Ondanks dat wij ons uitdrukkelijk presenterenden als gay-resort trokken we toch veel aandacht. Suriname als land is in Belgie toch in trek. De grote minpunt van Suriname zijn: visum-aanvraag en geen rechtsteekse verbinding vanuit Belgie naar Suriname.

We hadden de stand ingericht met grote posters met daarop foto's van ons resort en van een paar binnenlandse bestemming (Brownsberg, Palemue, Kasakasima, Galibi). De avontuurlijke foto's trokken veel aandacht. Ook hadden we twee laptops meegenomen waarop foto's en filmpjes over Suriname werden getoond. De Surinaamse rum en het top-1 Surinaamse magazine 'Moksi' ontbraken natuurlijk niet in onze stand. De Moksi's werden griftig doorgebladerd en de rum liet men ook niet onbetuigd. De foto's van de Moksi werden heel mooi gevonden en de rum vonden de meeste mensen zacht van smaak.

Al met al willen wij concluderen dat de beurs een succes is geweest. Ook al komen de meeste standbezoekers niet bij ons logeren gezien het feit dat ze hetro zijn, alleen al het feit dat door onze actie extra mensen naar Suriname komen is op macro-economisch niveau goed voor Suriname, alhoewel het op micro-economisch niveau ons misschien meer geld heeft gekost dan het gaat opbrengen. We hebben ongeveer 15 echte gay-koppels gehad. Als ze allemaal drie weken komen logeren dan zouden we al super-blij zijn. Over een jaar kunnen we onze calculatie maken of de kosten de opbrengsten hebben overtroffen.

Wij willen onze gastheren van onze B&B-logeergelegenheid L'Art de la Fugue bedanken voor de service die aan ons gegeven is. Het was een statig oud pand, gerenoveerd, en beschikt over 3 units. Op 25 minuten lopen van het gay-uitgaanscentrum van Brussel, namelijk Rue de Pierre oftewel Steenstraat op z'n Nederlands. Het geserveerde ontbijt was wel op z'n frans, we zijn tenslotte in Brussel, wat inhoud croissant, stokbrood, koffie, thee, sap en alleen zoetigheid voor op brood zoals jam, chocopasta, jam, witte chocopasta, jam, (luikse) stroop, jam.

Sorry voor de onduidelijk foto's, waarschijnlijk was of de lens niet helemaal schoon of de camera stond verkeerd afgesteld. Wij hopen wel dat de foto's u een indruk geven van de beurs en onze stand.



Persmededeling van bb-expo op 23 december 2006

On the weekend of March 17th and 18th, A Bed and Breakfast Fair was held in Brussels, Belgium. This fair also included stands owned by small hotels and apartment complexes. We were asked to apply by the organization. If enough gay-oriented companies applied, a special LGBT-section would be included in the fair. Sadly, the Spanish Casa la Diferencia and our stand were the only LGBT-oriented stands, so no separate section for us. We were situated at the far-away places section of the fair. A total of 8000 people visited the fair. Even though we presented ourselves as an exclusive gay-resort, we still attracted a lot of attention. Suriname as a country is definitely a destination for Belgians. The biggest hurdles for Belgians when coming to Suriname are: Visa-application and no direct flights available from Belgium to Suriname, or vice-versa.

The stand was decorated with large posters of our resort and of a few destinations in the interior of Suriname (Brownsberg, Palumeu, Kasikasima, Galibi). The adventurous snapshots drew a lot of attention. We also brought along two laptops which showed more pictures and video footage of Suriname. Surinamese rum and one of the leading Surinamese magazines ‘Moksi’ were obviously present as well. The rum and the magazines were definitely the fan favorites at the fair. The pictures were said to be beautiful and the rum to be soft of taste.

We want to conclude that the fair was a success. Even though most of the visitors wont come and stay with us because they’re straight, it wont matter, because our fair-stand drew people to come to Suriname and that is more than enough to make a small change in the macro-economic level. It has however cost us a bit more money than we will make out of it on the micro-economic level. On average, a number of 15 gay couples visited our stand. If they all came and stayed for three weeks, we would all be super-happy! In a year we can extrapolate if our incomes have overcome our costs.

We want to thank the hosts of our B&B-hotel, L'Art de la Fugue for their offered services. It was a stately old house, renovated and comprising of three units. A short 25 minute walking distance of the gay-centre of the capital Brussels, Rue de Pierre. The served breakfast was very French, we were in Brussels after all. Croissants, Baguettes, coffee, tea, juice and sweet things to eat with your bread like lots of different kinds of Jam, chocolate paste and syrup.
