In nine hours you fly from Western Europe to tropical Suriname, an ideal holiday destination - if you can miss palm beaches and amusement parks for a while. The country is rich in cultures whick gives the small cozy capital Paramaribo a vibrant and diverse character. Deeper inland dominates the jungle, impressive and charming at the same time. Travelers, backpackers and tourists bask in the tropical sun, giving in to the pleasant rhythm of life far from the hectic Europe and discover the secrets of piranha and mope. Enjoy a bright stars night on the warm rocks of Raleigh Falls, where the wishel of the flute frogs combnines with the sounds of the rapids, and know if there is a paradise, it is here.
  • Suriname, a former colony of The Netherlands, is more than four times the size of The Netherlands, with a population of little more than half a million. The population density is low: 4 people per km2 (compared Netherlands: 400 per km2). But a large part of Suriname is uninhabited, 80% is covered with tropical rainforest that Suriname also nicknamed The Green Caribbean. Around 90% of the population lives in a 50km wide strip along the Atlantic coast, easily explored with a rental car. The capital Paramaribo is located on the broad estuary of the Suriname River, 15 km from sea. Half of the total population of Suriname lives in Paramaribo.
  • The climate is hot and humid, but the almost constant northeast wind brings welcome relief. The average temperature is 27 C. You will never be cold, at night the temperatures drops rarely drop below 23 C.
  • The population includes the natives (Indians), maroons, Creoles, Chinese, Hindustani, Javanese, boeroes (whites), Jews and Lebanese.
  • The economy is based mainly on natural resources: bauxite, gold, oil, timber, agriculture, marine fisheries and tourism.

A review on Tripadvisor

It was like coming home again. This was the second time for us staying at Kekemba appartement. . This time we stayed in the same appartement (4) again. Everything was clean and the WIFI connection was very strong and working in all rooms. Closeby you can find a convenient store where you can buy all your basic groceries. If you need to rent a car or make a nature trip tot the inland, just ask John and Lloyd and they will arrange/book everything for you. If you find it too hot in Paramaribo, just take a dive in the pool for some refreshment. When visiting Suriname again we will surely stay at Kekemba Apartment. We want to thank John and Lloyd for their hospitality and taking care of us while staying there. Oscar and Nancy
